Although social network introduced us, I feel like I've known her all my life. From the moment I saw the 17-year-old cherub-like face, I was in love. Jona and I are kindred spirits born on the same day with similar passions. Her status updates make me smile, and I can sympathize with her frustrations.
Here's Jona in her own words:
"There are things that bother me on a daily basis. My whole people have just assumed what I am, racially. I guess my physical features throw people off sometimes. Despite my mixed heritage, I like think of myself as Black. Technically, that's what I am. In this country if you are 10% Black, then you are a Black person."
"Also, I hate when young girls don't embrace their body. I'm very curvy, and I love myself for it. Girls half my size hate their bodies. It's insane!"
"What I love is theatre. I go to a performing arts high school where I get the opportunity to act. But, there is almost nothing I love more than Michael Jackson! I'm so lucky my mom was able to pass on his legacy and message to me from a young age."
I really like Jona's style, and that inspiration wall too. Her outlook on racial identity and body image are right on point.
Jona, my dear, your future is so bright that it's blinding.

Sitting for an artist without actually sitting for an artist is a fantastic thing. You check your email and see a Google Alert with your name. So you click on it. And voila! There on your computer screen is a wonderful, graffiti-like rendition of you.
I had to know who did it. With a little detective work, I was able to track down German artist Juliane Hahn. Her work is superb and intriguing, so I had to ask:
Me: What makes you tick? Juliane: A lot of things. I guess you could sum it up with hunger for knowledge, love given and received and beauty but also ugliness of the world. There is so much to enjoy but also so much going wrong.
Concerning art: I think music is even more important to me than visual art. It motivates me the most, can release so many happiness hormones, gives me flow... what for does the world need drugs if it has music?
My fascination with Space, Time, and the unknown is reaching new heights with this picture. The European Space Agency just released new information that shows us what our universe looks like.
It's hard to imagine that all the galaxies in existence have been captured in this photograph. But I'm still optimistic that there is more to be discovered than what we see here. "Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky." Space will always be the final frontier, and the universe the great unknown.
"By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible." -Hebrews 11:3
